Flights from Scotland on a Thursday
Flight time is approximately 3 hours 30 minutes depending on your
aircraft to the stainless steel Athens International airport.
(this one even has tarmac on the runways!)
TRANSFERS
Taxis are available from the airport to the docks at Pireaus.
These can take between 60 - 90 minutes given Athens traffic.
Keep your hands over your eyes!
Most of the cab drivers think they are Shuie driving a Ferrari.
BUSES
There is also a bus service
(air-conditioned) which
takes much the same route
and costs a fraction of the taxi fare.
Bus fare is around 3.20€ per person
whereas taxis start from around 50€ and
normally take the same route.
The bus lets you see a bit more on the way to
the port. It leaves outside of arrivals hall
every 20 mins (40 mins a during the night).
TRAINS
Athens airport has a station where you can catch a train to the port of Pireaus. It takes stightly longer than the bus, but it comfortable and air conditioned.
ONCE AT PIREAUS PORT...
WATER
Flying Dolphins (hydrofoils) take you to the island of Poros
or if you are lucky the posh Flying Cat 1 or 2 (catamaran).
They take 55 - 60 minutes non-stop. There are also the big ferries known as the
slow boats run by Hellenic Seaways which take about 2 hours 30 minutes
these also call at Aegina and Methena on the way.
The last ferry to leave Pireaus is usually around 7-7.30pm
so remember this when booking flights.
POROS
Once you arrive on the island of Poros there are taxis right by the port to whisk
you to your hotel. The longest trip onthe island is only around 5 minutes.
